Since the schools were completely privatized, in 1916 neighboring rural families had the opportunity to send their children to attend high school in Potlatch. In rural Idaho at the time, schools only went through the 8th grade. Private high school tuition to non-employee families cost $40 per pupil. |

The number of teachers employed by Potlatch Mills Corporation has grown from 13 in 1914 to 15 in 1924.

Allison Laird is responsible for the success of the school system in Potlatch. The company leadership needed to create a fully operational school system that incorporated curriculum for all grade levels in less than a year.
Laird was responsible for designing of the buildings, the assignment of the cirrculum, the hiring of teachers, creating the independent school district, and for managing the growth of the school’s populations. |
